These days people are talking about going green as a away of showing their concern to the mother earth. The construction of new skycrappers and development of data centres are among things that has introduced environment friendly features such as optimizing the power and water consumption.

Kodak and Energizer has recently introduced their solar-powered charger, a good news for those living in the hurricane-prone area. Most of the existing solar products on the market allow you to charge mobile phone, camera and other digital gadgets. And now, most of new generation gadgets can be charged with a USB cable, it is no longer necessary for the companies to make solar charger that require multiple tips to fit different products.

Kodak Solar Charger is very compact and can be charged is several ways and serves few different purposes. It fits nicely in your palm just like a mobile phone and has a plastic hook so you can hook it on wall. It comes with two rechargeable AA batteries, which are used to store the solar energy and power your gadgets. To fully charge the batteries, leave the device in the sun (or by a window) for about 28 hours, or use the included USB cord to charge the batteries with your computer or with a USB power adapter.

To charge digital gadgets such as iPod or PDA, you just need to use a USB cable to connect it to the port on the Kodak solar charger. If you need to use a device that runs on battery power, like a digital camera, just remove the batteries from the charger and put them in your camera. Kodak says when the device is fully charged, it can deliver 1.5 charges to a cell phone (0.75 charges to iPhone/BlackBerry), run an MP3 player for 33 hours, or allow you take about 300 digital camera pictures.

Energizer Energi to Go SP2000 is bigger and more expensive than Kodak, but it has a fast charging capabilities besides providing more power. With a size of a purse, the charger has 3 solar panels that fold up when it’s not in use. The unit can fully charge after about six hours in sunlight, and it comes with an AC power adapter.

Another feature that is there are lights which indicates how much power left in the solar unit. Just like Kodak, it has USB port to charge gadgets, but also comes with additional tips to charge devices that does not support USB charging.It can provide 60 hours of run time on an iPhone or 12 hours of cell-phone talk time.
