When technology is misused, we may start wondering what are the repercussions to others?. And what damage can it do to others, whether involves injury or property damage.
GPS for example is a tool that helps people to navigate from point A to point B. But a professor at the University of California, San Diego has developed a mobile phone tool that aims to help illegal immigrants to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
Art professor and activist Ricardo Dominguez tells the North County Times on its Web site Saturday that the application he calls the Transborder Immigrant Tool uses global-positioning technology to provide the best route to cross the border.
According to the authorities, hundreds die trying to cross the border each year, many lost or abandoned by guides. Dominguez says the tool’s aim is to help save those lives.
Border Patrol spokesman Mark Endicott says smugglers have used GPS devices before, and the tools won’t affect the agency’s enforcement.
Dominguez says he hopes to make the application available for free on the Internet.
Although the objective of this tool is to save immigrant lives, this will definitely boost up the number of illegal entry to the country.
