Versace To Launch $5,000 Phone

The trend now is so obvious – computer and search engine company has their own mobile phone. iPhone is a product from Apple while Nexus One is Google’s first smart phone which was recently launched. But when fashion designer companies start producing their own phones, I feel that this is just not right.

Why? Firstly because mobile phones are technology related devices, and ONLY technology companies have a better idea on mobile phones. Secondly, fashion designer companies will need to rely on third-party technology companies to manufacture their phones. And thirdly, fashion designer phones are usually much more expensive and labelled as ‘designer’s collection’.

In a recent development, Versace, a well known Italian fashion designer company has planned to enter the mobile phone market along with LV, Prada, Dior and Armani in May, with a price tag of $5,000.

The company will collaborate with French manufacturer ModeLabs Group to develop the phone, which also makes phones for French fashion house Christian Dior.

Despite it’s ridiculous price, Wall Street Journal reported that such gadgets are in high demand mostly in Asia, Russia and Middle East. Versace targetted their phone to rich and famous people.

But even if I can afford those ‘bling-bling’ gadgets, I won’t spare even a dollar for those because I’m an avid gadgets lover and not fancy about fashion. To me, true gadget lovers will go for technical details as well as durability and innovation, instead of impressive leather or suade that decorates a phone.
