We often hear the term ‘cloud computing’, but what do you really understand about it?. Cloud computing has been implemented in large enterprises for the past few years. It is actually the management and provision of applications, information and data as a service. These services are available on the internet, usually on a consumption-based model.
Cloud computing delivers a convenient way of accessing computing servces, regardless of the hardware you use or your geographical location. With the implementation of this technology, the need to store your data physically on your computer or mobile devices is eliminated as you could access the information quickly and easily over the internet. You could reduce the need to install dedicated application on your computer, freeing your disk space as well as memory.
If you think this technology only available in big corporation, think again. You might already been using it without realizing it. Google is one of the company which offering free online application using cloud computing technology. Productivity tools such as word processing, spreadsheet, calendars and photo sharing are among applications that are available from the internet.
Major IT companies such as Dell, IBM, SUN and Novell have also invested billion of dollars to offer such services to individuals and business users. One of the popular cloud computing platform is Citrix which allows users to access a virtual desktop and a set of programs via web browsers like Internet Explorer.
With this, users can immediately access the program without having to install or to have a properly configured computer. As long as there’s an internet connection and browser, they can start using the applications.
My prior experience with Citrix allows me to access a set of applications that our clients are using while accessing from my own office. With this cross environment computing, I can safe time and the clients don’t have to purchase additional software license for each and every softwares just for me. What they need to do is to grant me an access to their Citrix platform.
