To be honest, LG is not listed in my favourite phones. However, the latest phone from the Korean company may have changed my mind. The LG GD880 or codename Mini has finally entered the mobile phone market by promising many interesting features. Announced in conjunction to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona recently, the LG Mini is the mobile phone featuring HTML-5 support.
In term of design, this candybar phone is sleek and stylish which has been LG’s main attraction for quite some time. As a result, the phone has received a few awards including the red dot award and iF product design award last month.
The LG GD880 measures 102.0 x 47.6 x 10.6 mm, weighs merely 99g including battery and sports a large 3.2-inch TFT touchscreen display that supports 262k colors with 480 x 854 pixel resolution. It also comes with a web browser called the Phantom which promises a faster browsing experience and the ability to open multiple tabs simultaneously as if you’re browsing from your desktop computer.
This is by far, the most Internet-oriented phones ever produced by LG as it includes many Internet related applications such as Google Latitude, Gmail, Google Maps and Calendar. Not to forget, it also includes social network supports such as Facebook. And if you’re often disappointed by your phone’s JavaScript and Flash performance, this phone may just amaze you as it has improved these 2 multimedia component features. In other word, you can watch a smooth video playback from YouTube.
Users will have better control and interface especially when surfing the net as the phone makes use of Intelligent Zoom and Touch-to-Zoom features, which optimizes each webpage for reading on its screen.
Other features of the LG Mini include a push mail service (which I’m yet to find out if they really work like Blacberry), a 5-megapixel camera, Assisted GPS, WiFi, FM radio as well as 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. And if you like to party, you may just love this phone because it has a 3.5mm audio jack which can easily be connected to most of today’s speaker.
This phone is available this month starting in Europe and followed by other regions. As for the price tag, it differs from country to country but the recommended tag is around $467.
