The birth of mobile phone in this world over 20 years ago has marked a milestone in the world of telecommunication. Over the years, we have seen a lot of changes in this communication tool, which indicates a positive sign in mobile phones evolution. The device is almost everything in today’s life, from making calls, send text messaging and also to interact with your friends and family members in Social Network sites. You may need to bring your own device and not sharing it with others in order to perform all these.
In its early days, mobile phones are strictly used to place phone calls. About a decade later, the SMS or Short Messagging Service came in. Then, the Internet browser was introduced, although the data connection speed was still crawling at that time.
Today, mobile phone is just like a Swiss Army knife. Packed with a lot of functions (some users may not even aware of). Everyone knows that it has been stuffed with digital still camera, video camera (now comes in HD), email, organizer, voice recorder, calculator, GPS and media player, to name a few. But do you realize that this will affect gadgets which has a dedicated function?.
I have to admit, when the camera first being incorporated into a mobile phone, I was skeptical that it will be warmly welcomed, especially to those shutterbugs. The main reason is that the quality of image taken by a mobile phone camera is so low at that time.
However, after years of reengineering, we have seen a big improvement in term of image quality. Phones with camera used to have less than 3-megapixels, but today, you can get as much as 12-megapixel camera built into a mobile phone. So I’m starting to believe that other functions that a mobile phone carries will soon be much more sophisticated. Soon, we will also be seeing other gadgets’ role to be added in a phone. Projector is one of them.
But this advancement will definitely has its side effects. Take a camera for example, why would we need one if the quality and all the basic features are there in a phone?. And why would you need a navigation GPS if your phone can guide you with the routes?. iPod will no longer relevant if your phone can substitute its role?.
