Panasonic for the first time has introduced on Wednesday a prototype lens for its Lumix DSLR cameras that will allow users to capture 3D still images.
The main lens has two smaller lenses side by side, which each transmit light to the camera’s image sensor. The image coming through each lens will be from a slightly different viewpoint and the difference will result in 3D illusion.
According to Panasonic officials during a news conference in Tokyo, the lens will be compatible with Lumix cameras that use the ‘G Micro System’ mount and expected to hit the market by the end of this year. Panasonic also announced its first 3D video camera during the conference.
However, the details on the price of the lens and the regional availability has yet to be confirmed.
